Hossfeld Hot at Seekonk
Seekonk, MA --
Chuck Hossfeld of Buffalo, N.Y. scored his
first NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series win of the 2004 season in the
Coca-Cola 150 at Seekonk Speedway. Hossfeld, driving the Mystic
Missile Racing Dodge, held off a determined challenge by Donny Lia of
Jericho, N.Y over the final 30 laps to win by just .38 seconds.
It was the fifth career win for
Hossfeld and his first at Seekonk. He took the lead on lap 68
from Eric Beers following a restart for a caution period that occurred
on lap 61. His last series victory was at Waterford, Conn. in Aug of
2003.
“I really enjoy racing at Seekonk,
the fans are terrific here.“ said Hossfeld. “Over those final laps
I was just holding my line trying to hold off Donny. I was trying to
make him go around me. This win was a real shot in the arm to the
whole team.”
Lia’s second place in the Huntington
Honda Chevrolet was his third straight Top-5 finish. Lia is now sixth
in the series standings. Three races ago he was 16th.
Dick Houlihan earned a career best
third place finish in the Viveiros Insurance Chevrolet. Eric Beers,
who led the first 67 laps in the Major Motion Transport Chevrolet was
fourth. Jeff Malave rounded out the Top-5 in the Davidson
Company Chevrolet with his first career Top-5 finish.
Tony Hirschman was involved in an early
race tangle but came back to finish 10th. Hirschman now leads the
series point standings by 5 over Eddie Flemke.
Flemke was involved in two separate
incidents the second one occurring on lap 102. Flemke finished 26th.
Donny Lia also earned the Bud Pole
Award. Jamie Tomaino was the Powerade Power Move of the race winner.
Zach Sylvester was the Auto Meter Rookie of the race for the third
straight race.
The next event for the Featherlite
Modified Series is at the Riverhead Raceway on Saturday Aug. 7.
