The Devil Never Sleeps
The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be
self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour." Over the last six
weeks, he has turned his attention toward this ministry. Guess that is
a good sign, since it is said that if you are doing nothing effective
for the Lord, the devil will not bother you. Greetings, in the name of
our Lord and Savior, Jesus!
Just in case you thought that the devil does not ever
try and bother a minister or those around him, we thought we would let
you know what has been going on around here. The devil even came
against Jesus Himself. Imagine, God in human form and the devil has
the arrogance to mess with Him.
Look at what the devil did with Jesus as found in Luke
4:1-13, "Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan
and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was
tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end
of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son
of God, tell this stone to become bread." Jesus answered,
"It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'"
"The devil led him up to a high place and showed
him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him,
"I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has
been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you
worship me, it will all be yours." Jesus answered, "It is
written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"
"The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest
point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said,
"throw yourself down from here. For it is written: " 'He
will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they
will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot
against a stone.' " Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put
the Lord your God to the test.'" When the devil had finished all
this tempting, he left him until an opportune time."
The last words are most important. It says the devil
left Jesus until a more opportune time; a better time to tempt Jesus
with trials and problems. Certainly, the devil did return. And when
Jesus was crucified, Satan thought he had gained the victory. He was
sorely disappointed when Jesus rose from the dead on the third day.
Now, about us:
BETTY EVANS- This six week period begins with
Betty. She got up in the middle of the night. what she did not see was
our dog Champion, a black Lab, following her. When she returned, the
dog was lying directly in her path. Being at night and dark, she never
saw the black dog. She fell resulting in a bruised and liquid filled
knee and torn ligaments in her left rotator cup. The pain can still be
so intense as to wake her at night, causing her to apply an analgesic
and ice and prayer to return to sleep. Yet she knows we can ill afford
a loss of income, so she is bravely still working, driving 500 miles
per week and doing work in about 25 stores on her survey/merchandising
route.
A couple weeks later, she was entering an
intersection, onto an entrance ramp top I-395. Some guy thought he
could out speed her and get through the intersection before she got
into his lane of traffic. He slammed hard enough into her car that the
chassis was damaged and the repairs are estimated at near $7,000. this
accident, of course, simply re-injured all that had occurred with the
dog. She is now in therapy, but refuses to miss work.
A week later, our daughter-in-law had a deer cross the
road and the head-on damage destroyed her pick-up. They opted for a
newer vehicle. One day after the purchase, she and Betty were going to
a shower. As they sat still at a light, in the left turn lane, a woman
in an SUV was busy watching something on the sidewalk and simply drove
into the right rear of the car. One day after buying it, it was set
for a body shop. Betty's nerves were a bit shambled as it seemed that
she being in a car was not a great place to be.
Today she remains in constant pain, although it has
become less wide spread and is more centered in the upper arm/shoulder
area. The Vioxx does not seem to be doing the job and the alternative
medication can not be used because of an allergy to it. She is
continuing her work, despite the pain aggravated by driving. She
really believes that we are to walk by faith.
REV. JOE BUBBICO- As you have read here, Rev.
Joe was also in a violent accident that saw his car destroyed and hit
hard enough to flip it over. He has had neck surgery and is home
recuperating. He is most thankful for all the cards and calls.
However, his activity for his own life as well as the ministry has
been hampered, temporarily. He should be back in good shape in time to
be sure Rev. Dan Petfield and Rev. Don Rivers have a place to stay
when they get out there for the November BNS/WW event at Irwindale.
However, we must remember that a person, not paying attention, simply
drove through an intersection and hit him.
VACATION TRAGEDY- OK, so between me working a
day job and doing the ministry, plus Betty's problems, seemed a
vacation was certainly in order. On June 21, we left for Virginia
Beach, VA to spend a week at a quiet, ocean front motel. After driving
there, the reservations were not correct and we almost left to find
another place at 10 PM. However, the night manager decided to not lose
customers and made things right.
We had taken the Pace Car thinking the larger car
would be more comfortable for Betty. However, while I am sure that it
was better than the smaller loaner car she had, the bumps in the road
caused enough pain that we had to stop several times and rest. Anyway,
Sunday morning I went out to the Design 500/ Bolles Motors Ministry
Dodge to go to the store. I noticed that it was not driving quite
right. It was stuck in second gear which is what it does when their is
a transaxle or transmission problem. It allows you to drive slowly to
the nearest dealer.
Monday morning, I headed to Virginia Beach Dodge where
it was discovered that the TCM computer deal was shot and had to be
replaced. It was to come from Atlanta, but they had none and it was to
be shipped from Michigan. The excellent Plus warranty Dodge offers put
us into a 2003 Stratus for the week at no charge as well as the
repairs also under warranty. Betty loved the Lava color of the car.
Check out the color at www.bollesmotors.com
Also, look into the excellent Dodge warranties. The Pace Car was not
ready until 4 PM Friday, one day before we were scheduled to leave. We
were getting a little worried that we would be stranded in Virginia
Beach and miss Sunday's FMS race at Wall Township Speedway.
The Dodge was perfect and after a week of more resting
than doing due to Betty's rotator cup problem, we took off Saturday
June 28 headed for a motel in Lakewood, NJ that Janice Brice had
arranged for us. We had to still make several stops so Betty could get
out of the car and give the arm a break. About three exits south of
where we were to stay in New Jersey, we got an unexpected call from
home.
Our daughter-in-law called with the terrible news that
Harold Sweet had gone to his eternal home after a jack slipped and he
was crushed under a car he was attempting to repair for a relative.
Harold worked for BNS Crew Chief Mark and BNS driver Matt Kobyluck at
Kobyluck Concrete. We were close. His wife Mandy is a many year friend
to us and they both attended Betty's Young Adults Bible Study. I
had the pleasure of performing their wedding a few years ago.
Obviously, we kept going past the exit and headed
home. Mandy needed Betty and myself to be with her. We really
appreciate Janice Brice taking care of the motel despite our lateness
in canceling, so that we were not charged for the room. I actually
think Janice and Bill paid for it without telling us. We called Greg
Gastelu and Jim Chapin in the Wall pits to let them know why we would
not be there. Thank God that Rev. Dan Petfield had already agreed to
join us there. He had chapel for the guys Sunday and took our place at
pre-race. Even he had problems with the scheduled Chapel time which
was thrown out by schedule delays. He and Jamie Tomaino worked
together to provide a time.
We arrived at our son's home, where Mandy was staying,
about 1:30 Sunday morning. After some sleep, Betty spent the day
Sunday making funeral arrangements and picking out the casket with
Mandy. Rev. Don Rivers gave the sad news to Mark and Matt and their
mom Saturday night at Holland Speedway.
Last Wednesday evening, we had the wake and Thursday,
the funeral for Harold. And now, we hope the worst is over. We will be
spending much time with Mandy and everyone, including Mark Kobyluck,
have been most helpful to her. But she has a long road to travel. Pray
that we be of proper assistance to Mandy during this trying time.
So, that is our six weeks from hell. Yes, from Hell,
because that is the devil's home and Jesus made it very clear what the
difference is between Himself and Satan in John 10:10, "The thief
comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may
have life, and have it to the full." The devil has returned at
what must have seemed to him, a more opportune time, to attack this
family and this ministry and our friends.
But we will get past all this. Betty's healing will be
complete. The shortage in ministry income will be overcome by God,
through you. Mandy will have her time of mourning and successfully
move on by faith in the Lord and His Word. We will be what the bible
tells us we were made to be in Romans 8:37, "..In all these
things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." And
we have no doubt that God loves us and we will never doubt Him even
when the devil does attack and God makes us to be overcomers through
faith in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

SAFER BARRIER- “We are very pleased to announce that following
Dr. Dean L. Sicking’s recommendation to NASCAR, we will be
installing the SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barrier at New
Hampshire International Speedway,” said Bob Bahre, Chairman of the
Board. Dr. Sicking, the Director of the Midwest Roadside Safety
Facility (MwRSF) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has developed
the barrier that will be attached to the outside walls at NHIS. The
SAFER barrier will cover all four of the track's turns. “It is our
plan to have the SAFER barrier in place for the NASCAR Winston Cup
Series Sylvania 300 weekend this September,” Bahre stated. The
NASCAR Winston Cup Series Sylvania 300 weekend, from Thursday,
September 11 through Sunday, September 14, will also feature the New

act plus a Train Race over the Figure Eight course is also slated.
This race has grown in popularity since its introduction in 2002. If
that were not enough a Car Rollover Contest will turn things totally
upside down! For more information please call the track office at
631-842- RACE or visit our website at www.riverheadraceway.com.
JOEY McCARTHY- Saturday morning, got to watch
the Holland Busch North race. There was some excellent driving and a
high level of sportsmanship evident on the track. The BNS is doing a
lot to make us all proud of them. As McCarthy said, the BNS has
"some of the finest drivers in the country." Joey finally
did what we all knew he was capable of doing. After years in Busch
south, then up to Busch North, the New Jersey native finally has put
it all together taking down his first BNS win at age 30. The team put
a great handling car under him. He stayed patient and kept the tires
in good shape and had a lot left to make the charge and bypass Kelly
Moore to get the eventual win. God Bless, Joey. Knew you could do it.
JOHN BLEWETT III- Hometowner John Blewett III
preserved the value of being a home track driver as he took the
checkered in the first ever FMS race held at Wall Township Speedway.
Congrats! I still got to see the race, plus Sunday's ProStock and WRS
by Dodge weekly Modifieds through a tape from Gary Silverman. The Wall
Township Speedway Videographer did a great job. We got the tape in
time to review it last weekend. Gary is also the Webmaster for the www.JERSEYRACING.com
Tapes of all of WTS races are available from Gary for $15.00 plus
$4.00 shipping. If you want a copy of the FMS race or any other event,
E-mail Gary at gary@manosilver.com
or mail your $19.00 check to him at 22 Mayfield Place, Metuchen, NJ

order tapes.
HARRY REED IS A ROCKET IN O'RORKE MEMORIAL 76 AT
WALL TOWNSHIP SPEEDWAY- Veteran Busch Beer Modified stock car
driver Harry Reed of Freehold rebounded from what has been mostly a
luckless season thus far to win the fourth annual Marian O'Rorke
Memorial Independence 76 at Wall Township Speedway Saturday night.
Reed simply dominated the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series event, starting
from the pole by the luck of the draw after qualifying in the top
eight during time trials on Home Depot night. Finishing fourth behind
Reed, Jimmy and John Blewett was Howell's Ken Woolley, Jr., while Dave
Michel of Manahawkin was fifth. Like Reed, Freehold's Chas Okerson was
also impressive is his 25-lap Pro Stock win. The defending champ
needed just nine laps to race into the top spot and then stretched an
advantage over the field. Rob Williams of Farmingdale was second,
while Freehold's Jason Burdge, Greg Gastelu of Jackson and early
leader Eric Albright of Morristown completed the top five. Defending
Snap-On Tools Street Stock champion Steve Costello of Lakewood showed
all on Saturday night his obvious driving skills as he raced to his
first win of the year in an all-new race car. Based on the chassis
that he used last season, Costello drove that new creation to a
convincing win. Farmingdale's John McCormack was second, followed by
Darren Burdge of Howell, Chris Halstead of Cliffwood Beach and
Absecon's Bob Geiger. In a race that saw defending champ Jason
Rochelle of Hackettstown flip his race car violently down the back
stretch before walking away uninjured, Brick's Brian Gardella raced to
victory in the INEX Legend Cars 20-lapper. After checking on his
brother's condition, Paul Rochelle raced home second, with Jim Tomaino
of Eatontown, Craig Rochelle and John Menzak of Flemington wrapping up
the top five. Billy Weichert of Chatham won the 20-lapper for the
Truck Series.
SHERRIE FLEURY- Sherrie is the Promoter of the
legendary Claremont Speedway in Claremont, NH. A couple seasons ago,
the track became a WRS by Dodge NASCAR facility. I keep bugging her to
begin holding Mod Series and Busch North Series events. I think she
wants to remodel the track before they let us in there. Sherrie, who
also occasionally drives a Wild Cat race car at the track, should know
how you feel. If you would like to let Sherrie know that you would all
be there for the Busch North and Mod Series events, even if the seats
are not perfect, tell her by visiting the website at www.claremontspeedway.com
Click on the E-Mail us button and tell Sherrie we would love to come
to the rustic scenery of mid-west New Hampshire and watch our
divisions at this historic track.

CHEMUNG DONALD MOSHER MEMORIAL RACE RESET- Bob
Mosher was kind enough to let us know about the upcoming race for his
late father. He writes, "Just wanted to let you know that we will
be holding a Memorial Race for my Father, Donald Mosher on July 12,
reset from June 21 due to rain. If you would like to mention it to
your readers it will be held at Chemung Speedway in Chemung, NY on
June 21st. We will be giving away some door prizes such as a Dale Jr.
bowling ball, racing t-shirts and other Nascar items." Thank you,
