Six
drivers were red hot in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
competition on an uncharacteristic night of yellow fever at
Thompson International Speedway.
Thursday night featured two first time winners with Marc
Jenison of Danielson scoring his first Late Model triumph in
the division’s marquee 50-lapper and Eric Grant of New
Milford besting a strong Limited Sportsman field for his
career first. Keith Rocco of
Wallingford
survived a caution-filled event to score the Sunoco Modified
victory. Norm Wrenn of
Nashua,
NH, was tops in the Pro Stocks.
Tim Sullivan of S. Windsor
was victorious in the TIS Modifieds and Mike Romano of
Pascoag in the Mini Stocks.
The Late
Model division had the chance to shine in their 50-lapper
and Marc Jenison of Danielson, shone the brightest.
The Late Models provided non-stop action from start
to finish. In the opening laps,
pole-sitter Dennis Perry held the point while Pete Yetman
threw move after move at him from the second position.
Perry held his line and the top spot.
The battle for the lead allowed Steve Landry to join
the frey.

MALONE TOPS IN
MODS; BARNETT KING OF LIMITEDS AT THOMPSON
THOMPSON
An
outstanding field of 142 cars converged on Thompson International
Speedway on Thursday for the presentation of NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series competition on Craftsman Tools Night. Kerry
Malone of Needham,
MA made a statement with his strong win in
the Sunoco Modified division. Larry Barnett of
Ledyard,
CT continues to be the benchmark in the
Limited Sportsman division with his win in the 50-lap main event. In
full-fendered action Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, RI, scored the Late
Model victory while Mike O’Sullivan of
Springfield, MA, came
home victorious in the Pro Stock division. Roger Larson, Jr. was
tops in the TIS Modifieds while Brad Caddick scored the Mini Stock
victory win.
The Limited Sportsman came out in force for their headline
50-lapper. Larry Barnett proved to be the class of the 33-car field
claiming a commanding win in the division’s premier event for the
2007 season. After an incident involving the leaders Tim Taylor and
Jay Sundeen brought out the caution, Barnett handily motored his way
into the lead before the completion of lap one.

THUNDER ROLLS AT THOMPSON IN
JUNE
THOMPSON
The month of
June will bring racing activities at the Thompson International
speedway to full song. Three of the four Thursday Night Thompson
Thunder race programs will offer fans something special
including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Race number five on the “Tour” schedule will be
run on Thursday, June 21st and will be presented by
Charter Cable, Internet, Telephone. This will be the second
appearance of the year for the NASCAR Whelen Modifieds at
Thompson. The season began for NASCAR’s oldest division with the
running of the ICEBREAKER back in April. That race was won by
James Civali of Meriden, CT. Civali beat Chuck Hossfeld, Ronnie
Silk, Jimmy Blewett and Matt Hirschman to the finish line. It
was a great victory for the sophomore driver who had to
withstand a green-white-checkered finish in what turned out to
be a 152 lap event.
